Digital Marketer? Just call yourself a marketing nerd with a computer!
December 18, 2016
Every once in a while, I'm asked, "What does digital marketing really mean?" Each time, I quickly run my list and explain how it is all encompassing. I mention social, email, analytics, SEO, website design... and then close with, "mostly anything marketing done on a computer."
As a response, I recently heard, "You should just call yourself a marketing nerd on a computer. The word digital means nothing to me."
I found it pretty interesting and even began to consider changing my title on my LinkedIn profile. I started to think, what does digital marketing mean to people outside of my profession. Are people looking for digital marketers, inbound marketers, content marketers, social media marketers?
As a marketer (almost said digital ha!) with a strong focus in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) industry, I find some marketing buzz words have not introduced yet. In some cases, my target audience finds the term, digital marketing a bit generic and intimidating.
With that, I ask you, what do you think?
